Test guides

A note on direct-access testing in general

Direct-access lab tests use the same certified laboratories as doctor-ordered bloodwork — the analytical quality is usually comparable. The gap is interpretation: choosing the right test, timing it correctly, and reading the result in clinical context. These guides aim to close that gap partway. They cannot close it fully — that is what clinicians are for.

Three rules that apply to every test on this page:

  • Screening is not diagnosis. Direct-access tests flag things worth discussing; they do not deliver verdicts.
  • Abnormal results deserve a clinician. Repeat testing and context turn a number into a plan.
  • Symptoms beat tests. If something feels wrong, see a doctor whether or not you have tested.
