Flood damage cost estimator for Austin-area homes
What flood damage to a house actually cost in the Austin-area suburbs we cover, based on 447 National Flood Insurance Program claims on single-family homes, 2015–2026[1].
This is an estimate, not a quote. It shows the range of damage that FEMA's flood-insurance adjusters recorded on past claims near you. Your repair cost depends on your home, the water and local contractor prices. Only an inspection can tell you what your repair will cost.
Estimate your range
Every range, by water depth
| Water depth inside | Claims | Middle half of damage | Median damage | Damage as share of building value (middle half) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 6 inches | 279 | $14,263 – $48,635 | $31,960 | 10% – 42% |
| 7 to 12 inches | 71 | $17,110 – $76,803 | $41,114 | 14% – 52% |
| 13 to 24 inches | 45 | $18,215 – $43,063 | $34,241 | 17% – 43% |
| 25 to 48 inches | 31 | $29,481 – $65,301 | $41,139 | 30% – 56% |
| More than 48 inches | 21 | $32,026 – $130,245 | $70,767 | 9% – 78% |
"Middle half" = 25th to 75th percentile of the adjusters' building-damage amounts. Bands with fewer than 20 claims show no figure. Amounts are in the dollars of the year of each loss, not adjusted for inflation.
How this works
Data. FEMA publishes every National Flood Insurance Program claim with its ZIP code, water depth, and the adjuster's building-damage amount[1]. We use the claims from the 19 ZIP codes of the Austin-area suburbs on our site: 78610, 78613, 78620, 78626, 78628, 78633, 78634, 78640, 78641, 78642, 78645, 78653, 78660, 78664, 78665, 78666, 78681, 78734, 78738. We keep claims on single-family homes (FEMA occupancy codes 1 and 11) with a loss in 2015 or later, a recorded water depth, and a damage amount above zero. That leaves 447 of the 2,151 claims in those ZIPs.
The range. For your water-depth band we show the middle half of recorded damage (25th–75th percentile) and the median. If you enter your building's value, we also apply the middle half of the damage-to-building-value ratios for that band. Claims where damage exceeded the recorded building value are left out of that ratio.
What's not in it. Only flood damage covered by flood insurance appears in this data. Burst pipes, appliance leaks and roof leaks are not NFIP claims, so we can't estimate those. Standard homeowners policies don't cover flood[2], so check which policy applies before you file. The data doesn't record house size, so the tool doesn't ask for square footage. Contents (furniture, belongings) aren't included either.
Data as of Sep 8, 2026 (FEMA's snapshot date).
